Flylady 11 commandments
I’m overwhelmed. Plain and simple. I’ve been trying to get my home clean, organized and maintained for 4 years. I’ve tried everything but this- so let’s get started.
But first- some background, I’m a stay-at-home Mom to three small kids (5,3,3 months) without rules, structure or well anything. Life is a chaotic mess with little fun and a ton of out of control behavior. I’m on a mission to change my entire life.
From hoarder to minimalist
From no rules/structure to having them.
From being a yelling mom to not needing to.
From codependent to independent and self-sufficient.
The list goes on and on- but that’s many more different journeys this journey is to get the clutter and mess away opening up the possibilities for greater change.
I’m going to use the flylady approach for more deeper information visit Flylady

Day 1: Shine your sink.
Gulp… that’s not so easy. I have to first get through all the clutter. Appliances, dirty dishes, clean dishes, art trays etc. a little overwhelmed to be honest.
Total time: 1 hr 10 mins
Feeling great, loving the feel of the kitchen every time I walk in. Not loving the hubby coming in and putting stuff on the shiney counter.
I do find that I’m a little more anal about the above said, it took a big portion of time away from spending time with the kids, working, or just resting.
I shall get through this- just need some systems that will help the hubby (I’m thinking a dirty dishe bin) that will eliminate his mess when the dishwasher is filled with clean dishes.

Day 2: Dress to shoes
I got a bit discouraged last night because I don’t fit into any of my clothes, not even my fat clothes.
However, this am, I put on some running pants (they are my go to for now) and clean under garments and laced up my shoes.
Weird thing happened:
Little girl (3) followed mommy, got her outfit on and shoes, brushed her hair and went potty- SAY what!?! I have the most trouble getting her to follow the getting ready routine.
I should have dressed to shoes 3 years ago. Better late than never.
Also, both kids had great manners (please and thank you) and said they loved me over 6 times.
Damn I love these shoes.
After I got my shoes on I decided what the heck lets tackle the dining room table.
Who is this woman? I’m impressed…

Day 3: Using Reminders – instead of the typical sticky note method I went for physical reminders- shoes are right at my bedside, clothes laid out, etc. no need for a sticky note- however, I am only on day 3 so really anything can happen.
Plus Day 2,1
✅ Dress to shoes – my feet hurt so bad by the end of the day- possibly because wearing the shoes makes my mind think I’m some kind of successful person who gets shit done- my body on the other hand was not prepared and likes to protest.
✅ Shine your sink- still clean, still bringing me those happy vibes.

Day 4: Routines and Limiting Screen time
Horrible day today, the Flylady’s system is based on short bursts of time decluttering and cleaning.
Set a timer – do whatever you can – timer stops you stop. That’s amazing in theory, however, my kids create a 60 minute mess in the 15 mins I leave them alone to their own devices.
No wonder I am overwhelmed- at this rate my home will never be the sanctuary I desire. Just very frustrating that I can’t get a hold of raising the kids and cleaning.

Day 5: Breathe (5mins)
And friggen suffer, I absolutely can not sit with myself for 5 mins without doing something- my blood feels as if it’s boiling, I begin to sweat, I shake- not happening.
This may take a lot longer than one day.
But the Sink is Shined✅ and I dressed to shoes✅- pat on the back

Day 6: Tackle a Hot Spot (2mins)
Flylady: how to declutter
It seems EVERY spot in my home is a ‘Hot Spot’ I have this issue where clean surfaces seems extremely empty. Then I get an urge to fill up all the empty space. It definitely doesn’t help that when the clutter is gone the entire home echoes.
But it’s time for a change so… tackling one TINY hot spot today.
✅ Shine Sink
✅ Dress to shoes
✅ Breathe- I went to the bathroom alone for 5 mins (with three kids- that’s amazing)

Day 7: Pick your tomorrow clothes
Easy for me, I always know about what I’m going to wear as I don’t actually have much variation to begin with (running pants, fresh undies and bra, new black shirt) one day when I’ve lost all the baby weight and become less poor I would like to buy a new wardrobe until then I work with what I’ve got.
However, I’d really like to get in the habit of helping the kids pick out their outfit the night before to make mornings easier. So I’ll begin to build that habit instead.
